Al-‘Imran – Family of Imran (3:33-34)

3:33

Indeed, Allah chose Adam, Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of ’Imrân above all people ˹of their time˺.

3:34
ذُرِّيَّةًۢ بَعْضُهَا مِنۢ بَعْضٍۢ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ ٣٤

They are descendants of one another. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

Allah chose certain households above all others on earth. He selected the Messenger Adam (ʾĀdam) – (PBUH), fashioning him with His own Hand, breathing life into him, commanding angels to prostrate before him, teaching him the names of all things, and allowing him to dwell in Paradise before sending him to earth in His divine wisdom.

Allah chose the Messenger Nuh (Nūḥ) – (PBUH) as the first Messenger to humanity when people had fallen into idol worship. Despite the Messenger Nuh (Nūḥ) – (PBUH)’s tireless efforts—calling his people day and night, publicly and privately, for many years—they only grew more distant. When the Messenger Nuh (Nūḥ) – (PBUH) finally supplicated against them, Allah caused the great flood, saving only those who followed the true faith.

The household of the Messenger Ibrahim (ʾIbrāhīm) – (PBUH) was similarly honoured, ultimately producing the Messenger Muhammad (Muḥammad) – ﷺ, the master of mankind and Final Prophet. Allah also elevated the household of ‘Imran, father of Maryam (Mary) (عليها السلام), who would become the mother of the Messenger Isa (ʿĪsā) – (PBUH).
