11)The Grave Lie: Making Accusations That Allah Begets

Al-Ma’idah – The Table Spread (5:73)

Those who say, “Allah is one in a Trinity,” have certainly fallen into disbelief. There is only One God. If they do not stop saying this, those who disbelieve among them will be afflicted with a painful punishment.

The Qur’an strongly refutes the false claim that Allah has children, whether ascribed by Christians, Jews, or the idolaters of Makkah. Allah declares:

Al Baqarah – The Cow (2:116-117)

2:116

They say, “Allah has offspring.” Glory be to Him! In fact, to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth—all are subject to His Will.

2:117

˹He is˺ the Originator of the heavens and the earth! When He decrees a matter, He simply tells it, “Be!” And it is!
https://quran.com/2/116-117

This accusation is not only irrational but contradicts the very nature of Allah. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him; all are His creation and servants. Allah is absolutely unique, without equal or partner, and free from all needs or deficiencies. The idea of Allah having offspring implies likeness or comparison, which is impossible for the One who is Al-Ahad (The One and Only) and As-Samad (The Eternal Refuge). The Messenger Muhammad ﷺ explained in a hadith that Allah considers it an insult when people claim He has a son:

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Allah said, ‘The son of Adam tells a lie against me though he has no right to do so, and he abuses Me though he has no right to do so. As for his telling a lie against Me, it is that he claims that I cannot recreate him as I created him before; and as for his abusing Me, it is his statement that I have offspring. No! Glorified be Me! I am far from taking a wife or offspring.’ “

Sahih al-Bukhari 4482
Chapter 8: “And they (pagans, Jews and Christians) say: ‘Allah has begotten a son (children or offspring).’ Glory is to Him.. (V.2: 116), Book 65: Prophetic Commentary on the Qur’an (Tafseer of the Prophet (pbuh))

The Messenger Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) is like the Messenger Adam (Adam) (PBUH)

Allah, who created the Messenger Adam (Adam) (PBUH) without a father or mother, is fully able to create the Messenger Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) without a father. If the claim is made that the Messenger Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) is Allah’s son because he was born without a father, then such a claim would apply even more to the Messenger Adam (Adam) (PBUH), who had neither parent. Since no one claims divinity for Adam (Adam) (PBUH), it is even more baseless to make this claim about the Messenger Isa (Jesus) (PBUH)5.

Maryam – Mary (19:21)

He replied, “So will it be! Your Lord says, ‘It is easy for Me. And so will We make him a sign for humanity and a mercy from Us.’ It is a matter ˹already˺ decreed.”
https://quran.com/19/21

Ali ‘Imran – Family of Imran (3:59-60)

3:59

Indeed, the example of Jesus in the sight of Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust, then said to him, “Be!” And he was!

3:60

This is the truth from your Lord, so do not be one of those who doubt.
https://quran.com/3/59-60

By mentioning these examples, Allah demonstrates His absolute power: creating Adam (Adam) (PBUH) from neither male nor female, Hawa’ (Eve) from a male without a female, Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) from a female without a male, and the rest of humanity from both male and female.

A Clear Sign – They Both Ate Food

Al-Ma’idah – The Table Spread (5:75)

The Messiah, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger. ˹Many˺ messengers had ˹come and˺ gone before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They both ate food. See how We make the signs clear to them, yet see how they are deluded ˹from the truth˺!
https://quran.com/5/75

This refutes the claim of divinity for the Messenger Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) by stating: “There have been messengers before him.” Like all other prophets, Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) was human, fulfilled his mission, and passed away. Eternity is a quality unique to Allah, not shared by any prophet.

The verse further emphasises that both Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) and his mother Siti Maryam (Mary) (PBUH) ate food, highlighting their human dependence on worldly needs. Anyone who eats and drinks relies on creation for survival, which is incompatible with divinity. True Godhood is free from all needs and limitations.

Therefore, the fact that Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) and his mother ate food is clear proof of their humanity and a decisive argument against attributing divinity to them. Eating and drinking are signs of human limitation, not divine perfection.
