3:48

And Allah will teach him writing and wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel,

3:49

and ˹make him˺ a messenger to the Children of Israel ˹to proclaim,˺ ‘I have come to you with a sign from your Lord: I will make for you a bird from clay, breathe into it, and it will become a ˹real˺ bird—by Allah’s Will. I will heal the blind and the leper and raise the dead to life—by Allah’s Will. And I will prophesize what you eat and store in your houses. Surely in this is a sign for you if you ˹truly˺ believe.

3:50

And I will confirm the Torah revealed before me and legalize some of what had been forbidden to you. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so be mindful of Allah and obey me.

3:51

Surely Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him ˹alone˺. This is the Straight Path.’”

Verse 48 reveals Allah’s exceptional gifts to the Messenger Isa (Jesus) (PBUH): divine knowledge, Scriptures, Wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel. He was appointed as Allah’s Messenger specifically to guide the Children of Israel.

Verse 49 describes four miraculous signs granted to the Messenger Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) as testament to his prophethood—compelling evidence for those open to faith.

In verse 50, the Messenger Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) confirms the Torah while making lawful certain previously forbidden things, demonstrating divine revelation’s progressive nature. His prophethood and miracles constituted irrefutable proof of his authority to modify earlier laws.

Verse 51 shows the Messenger Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) calling people to divine obedience and his teachings. His message distilled to: “Allah is my Lord and your Lord” and “Worship Him”—a straight path integrating faith and deeds for salvation.

Allah equipped each prophet with miracles suited to their era’s challenges. During the Messenger Musa’s (Moses’) (PBUH) time, magic flourished, so Allah granted him miracles that confounded magicians. The Messenger Isa (Jesus) (PBUH) appeared when medicine advanced, so he performed supernatural healing and resuscitation beyond medical possibility. The Messenger Muhammad ﷺ came during an age of poetic mastery, bringing the Qur’an—whose eloquence remains inimitable despite any human effort.

Each prophet’s miracles thus challenged the highest human achievements of their time, demonstrating their divine commission and message.
